Azteca is our go-to place for lunch buffet on any given day. They have a plethora of options that taste amazing, and are always stocked. Their pico de gallo is spot on. Be sure to let them know if they're running low, they will give you a time frame on when it'll be ready. I like their options of salads and pastas also available. They even have dessert on the line. Nothing like finishing a meal up with some tasty Jell-O Jigglers!

Delicious taste of Mexican food in South Milwaukee! I was happy to check one if my "to try" bookmarks off the list and hit up Azteca today. It was easy to find with plenty of street and side parking. There's not much to appreciate about the ambiance. It could use some freshing up. Within the four walls are a mix of tables with banquet chairs and booths. Not representative of the food at all. Service was great. After a quick run-down of the menu I went with the chicken enchiladas Rojas. They came hot and steamy smothered in red sauce and cheese. The chicken was moist and full of flavor. The side if beans had a lot of flavor. Maybe cumin? Either way they didn't taste like they were from a can. Rice was lacking and tasted like rice-a-roni. Rice can be hit or miss so no biggie with me. I would have gone with the lunch buffet, but it was a Saturday. It's definitely a better deal as the standard menu prices are on the high side. Maybe next time I come I will do it during a weekday. It's worth another trip.

This was really good! The bucket of beers was a great deal for a weeknight out. My margarita was great and not too overpowering. The food was hot and served quick! Our server was awesome! She was very friendly and helped us decide on what we wanted and gave us a chance to try the different sauces. This chick does not do well on spice so I couldn't tell you about the difference because they all looked super spicy they prolly weren't. I will defiantly be back!

We wanted to try this new place. Walked in and lots of open tables. We were told there would be a 40 min wait. In disbelief I asked...why there are so many tables open? She said "prom". We literally would have stood there staring at empty tables for no reason. I am sure we would have been in and out before people sporadically arrived. Just had an icky feeling about the place and how it was handled. They don't get a second chance.

First time customer, stopped in for lunch was blown away by the buffet. The food was hot and the selection was awesome. The servers were very friendly and all assisted one another.to take care of a very bust lunch crowd. One of my new favorite spots! Can't wait to go back!!

My fiancé and i stopped in on good friday around 7. No wait, place is pretty clean, full bar, micheladas were good, ask for the different salsas there is 3 different ones other than the one they seat you with. She had enchiladas and i had number 19, both were very good. Portions are plenty big.Prices are comparable to any other sit down Mexican restaurant. Decent service very polite, i would come back again.

The food was good, the service wasn't. We never knew exactly who our server was and it wasn't even busy at all. The prices where fair. Not a very good looking place. We ate, paid and left because it seemed we were in their way. Didn't want to spend much time in there, hardly ate at all. I would go back maybe on a better night perhaps service will be better.

This spot is always our go-to on Sundays! Their Brunch buffet is like Mexican food heaven. They serve everything you can imagine from chicken wings, pork, tamales, chimichangas, ceviche, guacamole, several salsas, and even pozole! Not to mention the shrimp or build-your-own omelettes made by a chef right in front of you. If you have some room, there's a table with many desserts to choose from. The micheladas are great, the mimosas kinda small. The staff all have big smiles on their faces and they're constantly checking on your table to clear anything in time for your 2nd, 3rd, or 4th round... You'll definitely get a bang for your buck! Also, be sure to sign-up for their weekly emails! I get coupons sent to me weekly!

Simple location, nothing too fancy is just what I like in a Mexican restaurant! You can tell the salsa is freshly made in batches. Good chimichangas, flautas, and chili rellanos! We will definitely come back many times!

I have only eaten at Azteca for the lunch buffet and I was very happy with it. They have the usual fare (as they should), but they also have some unusual offerings (when it comes to lunch buffets). Everything I've tried was very good - much better than most Mexican buffets. When I get the "itch" for a Mexican lunch, Azteca will be my go-to place. I see that some of the reviewers were not happy for one reason or another; I don't know why there would be a difference, but my experiences have been very good. I wouldn't hesitate to eat here again and I would highly recommend the lunch buffet.

My wife and I went here n 2/13/15 for valentines Day at about 6:15pm. Upon our arrival we found out there is no parking. The only parking is on the street. Once inside we only had about a 5 minute wait. The restaurant is pretty small, but seemed clean. I ordered the Vegetarian Quesadilla. It came with beans and rice. The Quesadilla had spinach, mushrooms and cheese, and was pretty good. The rice had an odd taste, hard to explain. The beans were cold. My wife said her food was all good. The service was good and pretty quick. I would probably not go back. There was really nothing that stood out, that would make me want to come back. Between the rice, beans and no parking, for me that's too many negatives. There are so many other Mexican Restaurants, I will continue to look for my go to place.

Nice little Mexican restaurant. being Mexican myself I'm not a big fan of "mexicanamerican " restaurant's but aztecas is a nice place I've been here once, I had enchiladas zuisas , loved the green sauce nice spicy kick to it, decently priced, the place looked very clean. the waitress (Esmeralda) was very kind and attentive definitely recommend it to everyone . O and if you want to try their lunch buffet you might want to get there before 1:30 that way you can catch a good selection of food.

We go here for the Sunday brunch. Great deal for a mixture of lunch and breakfast items. I love their freshly made guacamole! They have someone making omelets, shrimp and desserts right on front of you on Sunday. They have done a lot of remodeling lately and the place looks good. The waiters are very friendly and quick.

This place doesn't even deserve 1 star I wish I could give it half a star. The food was terrible, the place was very dirty, the service was worse than the food, and it was extremely over priced. This place has the least authentic Mexican food ever. Even Taco Bell is more authentic. I have been there twice once for the buffet and once for regular. And neither was good, the buffet had like no food, and when I asked for more they said they were working on it. It must have taken them 30 minutes to refill the buffet. I will never go back.

The food here is very good. Although, it is a little pricey for what you get. The sangria there was awesome! The shrimp diablo is spicy and has great flavor to it. We used to buy the hot sauce by itself to make enchiladas. That being said, the chili diablo is one of the best around.

Azteca is well known for their lunch buffet but as a vegetarian I haven't tried it. Their menu is pretty comparable to other Mexican restaurants but I must say their beans and rice are pretty decent. First time there I went the a la carte route and had a "custom" bean and cheese chimichanga. Pretty good. They also offer complimentary chips and salsa which seems like it should be a no brainer, but I've been to other places that charge for it. The next several times there I've always had the enchiladas suiza with cheese inside instead of meat. Again, very good. The green sauce is the best part. The house margarita is strong enough and tasty too. The staff is fairly nice, they also have coupons for bogo and percentages off if you go on their website. As a bonus, they tend to cater to the lunch crowd that needs to get back to work within an hour and they seem to do a good job of serving quickly. Nothing too fancy here, but if you want some yummy Mexican fare with a cozy environment it's a good place to try.

Disappointing. I read the yelp reviews and was pretty pumped to try this place. We dined on a Tuesday night before 7 and we did get some decent happy hour margaritas. The staff (we had two servers) were both nice. But, one of the servers was wearing a very dirty shirt - such a turn off. Our table felt sticky. Vinyl table cloths. Dusty decor. The first basket of chips we had tasted stale to me. The second basket was better. No vegetarian options on the menu. I asked what they could make vegetarian, and he gave me a few options. I ended up ordering the tostatas without meat. The tostata itself was crispy and warm, good cheese, sour cream, and a tiny bit of lettuce. However, the refried beans were a very strange red color and very oily. Disappointed on flavor. I just can't bring myself above two stars because of the state of the restaurant, the failure to have real vegetarian options, and the bizarro-world beans.

We come here quite a bit since it's close to our house and the food/service has always been great! Reccomendation: They're only served on Friday's, but if you're there, skip the traditional fish fry and try the fish tacos!!! They're awesome!!!! The only thing stopping this place from the full 5 stars is that the bulding needs some repairs/updating. It looks like this place hasn't had a facelift in over 50 years!

Was I at the same restaurant as the rest of the reviewers? As I write this, Azteca has 13 reviews and a five star average. Hmmmm.... I disagree. It definitely falls into the "A-OK" bracket for sure. Nothing spectacular. Maybe it's the best Mexican in South Milwaukee, but when your only competition is Taco Bell, that's not a huge accomplishment. I visited Azteca for the lunch buffet today and this was my impression: The restaurant is not very bright, or modern looking. Smallish, but very complete, very well thought out buffet menu. All of the Tex-Mex food groups were represented, ie. Chimichanga, Enchilada, Fajita, Tacos, etc... Everything was very delicious and very flavorful. I'll give them credit for not having bland food, that's for sure. I was turned off by the most-certainly pre-made corn tortillas (which they never had enough of), and hard shell corn tortillas (just like Taco Bell!!). Service was just OK for buffet, not overly attentive, but we weren't ignored. They were very busy. This place is defiantely a must have on the South Milwaukee lunch circuit. Word of warning, they screw you on the soda refills, be careful! Our $6.95 buffet wound up costing us $12.50 each with two fountain sodas and a tip. I'll be back to give it another shot.

This was our second time here. We used a Groupon. The prices are very inexpensive and the quality and quantity of food you get is amazing. I had the enchilladas Rojas with the shredded beef. The portions are huge! We also had the bean dip which comes in a huge bowl. It was enough to feed a family of ten! My hubby settled in on the Chimmichangas. The kids menu offered a taco but my daughter decided on the cheeseburger. We also came during happy hour and had the Mango margaritas priced at $3.75. It reminds me of the old Aculpoco restaurant on National. The staff is very friendly. We will go out of our way to come here. We made it in before the dinner rush and were out quickly.

I love Azteca and I literally eat there daily for lunch. The food and service is top notch and the owners are very nice. My only gripe is they started putting mushrooms in the Chicken Costeno on the buffet. Why and please fix ASAP, you had such a perfect product. I still love this place!

I had lunch on Friday at Azteca. It was my second time there. Their lunch buffet is the best Mexican buffet around. Friday's included tender marinated pork cubes, steak fajitas, cheese enchilads, chicken quesadillas, potato flautas, BBQ ribs, hot wings and ground beef and chicken to build your own tacos. They also included a creamy crab chowder. Every bite was delicious. It's a haul for me to get there, but it is worth the trip. I'll have to go back and try the dinner menu some time. Best part is the buffet is only $6.95! The host and my server were all over making sure I was happy as well as all of the other tables. That's great service!

Great food with a great price, Azteca keeps calling us back for more food, The owner Carlos always stops by to say Hi and ask how everything was. We never got and food that was sub-par, Great deals and if your a Facebook friend you will get ?% off your bill when you tell your server the secret code of the day. Going there tonight for supper .

It's ok. I dined at noon on Sunday. Combination platter and each item was very good. Why such a small portion of beans? Why not offer me sauces with the meal? (I has to ask). I was solo diner and felt I was someone to have to be accommodated rather than someone to be greated warmly and cared for. Oh yeh, they found just enough time to try the soda refill trick ($$)

i found myself in south milwaukee on a sunday drive & passed azteca. i remembered that coworkers had gone there for there lunch buffet so i decided to try it. it was 2:30 in the afternoon & they still had the brunch buffet out until 3. i decided being there for the end of a buffet may not give a true example of how the food is, so we ordered off the menu. the food was very good & fresh tasting. the entire staff was very friendly . i have already stopped back a second time with the staff being even more courteous & the food just as good. i love the spicy creamy green salsa. ordered some to go but they were out. i will definitely make it there for a sunday brunch.

The hot shrimp soup was excellent. The queso with nachos looked average, but was actually quite tasty. Service was top notch (but I was the only one in the restaurant, so it should have been).

First time visiting this restaurant and it lived up to it's reviews. I was impressed with the service and the quality of food. Walked in and we were approached by a very nice woman who went to seat us but when I told her I've never been there before she took us to the buffet and went over each item and gave us menus to look at as well. She was the cook and just happened to be out in the dining room - WOW, I just thought that was so nice and I was really impressed by that level of service. We decided to go with the lunch buffet since there was so much to choose from. All the food was very fresh, flavorful and hot. There was fajitas, enchiladas and quesadillas to name a few things. There is also different meats to make your own creations. A man came to our table to take away some dishes and I recognized him from a past establishment. We began to talk and I found out he was the owner. Small world! Carlos is great, Azteca is great, the food is great and I will definitely make the drive again to bring new people there. Full mexican menu and All U can eat crab leg specials on Thursday and Saturdays.

I don't know how this gets such good reviews. The bathrooms are dirty. The beans and rice lacked flavor and were warm at best. The steak tacos were overcooked. The chips and salsa were good.

I wish this place was closer to my house, but it is well worth the drive. I was there with my sons and we had the All-You-Can-Eat crab leg special. Fantastic! The place was hopping when we arrived so we had to wait for a table. The bar area is small, but did the trick. The staff was wonderful and attentive. The guacamole was fresh and obviously hand made. The salad was exceptional! I plan to be back soon.

They've been open for 14 months right under our noses and we finally went in for a taste. Wow! No reason to drive to 5th & National. Here is the new king of Mexican cuisine on the south shore. I had veggie fajitas ($8) and my wife had a combo platter (also $8). Both were fabulous. I basically order fajitas at every Mexican place we go. Azteca prepared them with a very flavorful marinade that trumps nearly every other place in Milwaukee. Great happy hour beer & margarita specials. On top of all of this...NO SMOKING!!!! We'll certainly be back!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
